What Happens When You Unplug the WhatsMiner M50/M50S?

Just unplug it?

When the plug is pulled out, a Whatsminer M50/M50S device loses all power. It makes no sense that it stops working as intended, loses its Internet connection, and becomes a paperweight. However, there is a small potential issue when it does so.

Hot ASIC miners

Because Whatsminer M50/M50S miners produce a lot of heat, the Chinese workhorses have high RPM fans bolted to both ends. The unit’s fans push cooler air into the ASIC’s one end as it mines. As the air passes through, it absorbs heat inside the unit, expelling it out the opposite.

The fans at either end of the unit are inactive if there is no power. The chips inside are now on their own to cool down. The escape of internal heat is facilitated by the aluminum enclosure, the constrained airflow in the tube, and the heat sinks. However, there is a strong possibility that temperatures will rise briefly before any cooling occurs. There is a potential for harm as a result. The miner will have to sit on the bench and will lose money.
